16-Year-Old Girl Arrested After ‘Accidentally’ Killing Niece In Siaya

Police in Siaya County are currently probing a distressing incident that unfolded in Nyandiwa village, Alego/Usonga sub-county, where a 16-year-old girl is suspected of fatally injuring her 9-year-old niece with a spear.

The Assistant Chief of Nyandiwa Sub-location, Joseph Otieno Aloo, informed the Siaya Police Station about the tragic event.

Siaya County Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, revealed that officers swiftly responded to the distress call and found that the accused, who reportedly suffers from mental illness, was engaged in recreational activities with other children within their compound.

An altercation apparently erupted suddenly, leading the suspect to retreat into her father’s house and seize a spear, which she hurled in the direction of the other children. 

Tragically, the spear struck the nine-year-old victim on the head, resulting in her immediate demise.

Kimaiyo further confirmed that law enforcement processed the crime scene meticulously, gathering evidence before transferring the deceased’s body to Siaya County Referral Hospital for further examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
