Comedian Eunice Mammito found herself under scrutiny after sharing a skit on her social media platforms that made light of Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu’s recent death sentence

The skit emerged shortly after Jowie was handed a death sentence for the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018, a decision delivered by Justice Grace Nzioka, who deemed it a premeditated murder.

Notably, Jowie’s co-accused, Jackie Maribe, had been acquitted of murder charges in February and has since been appointed as the head of communications in the Ministry of Public Service.

While Jowie’s conviction remained a topic of widespread discussion, Mammito chose to create and share the skit.

In the skit, presented in the form of a song, she humorously encouraged Jowie to view his incarceration as an opportunity to engage in scams.

Additionally, she made a series of insensitive jokes about the conviction, sparking a wave of criticism from the public.

Many condemned Mammito for trivializing a serious legal matter and for failing to show respect for Monica Kimani’s memory in her comedic portrayal.

Despite the backlash, Mammito has not removed the video from her platforms, leading to accusations of defiance and insensitivity.

In response to the online criticism, Mammito expressed surprise at the unity of people condemning her actions, likening it to a rare event and suggesting hope for the country’s future.
