President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s steadfast commitment to stand by Haiti amidst a worsening humanitarian crisis fueled by a surge in gang violence.

In a recent statement, President Ruto emphasized his pledge to support Haiti, following discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis, representing the Caribbean Community and Common Market.

Ruto expressed solidarity with Haiti, describing the nation as “our brothers and sisters,” and assured them of Kenya’s continued active involvement during this critical period.

Central to his strategy is the deployment of a reconnaissance mission to Haiti once a stable administration is established.

This mission aims to ensure that Kenyan security personnel are well-prepared and informed to effectively address the evolving situation on the ground.

Earlier plans to send Kenyan police to Haiti as part of a UN-backed multinational mission have been put on hold.

This decision comes in response to the resignation of Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry due to the escalating violence and lawlessness gripping the nation.

Despite this setback, Kenya remains committed to providing leadership within the Multinational Security Support mission sanctioned by the UN Security Council last year.

Kenya’s initial proposal to deploy up to 1,000 personnel to assist in restoring stability in Haiti has encountered legal obstacles.
