A woman hailing from Nakuru finds herself in legal turmoil, accused of assuming the identity of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and orchestrating a scheme to deceive former Nakuru Mayor Herman Nderi and a businessman out of Ksh40 million.

Lucy Nyambura, the alleged perpetrator, was apprehended and brought before the Nakuru Law Courts on Thursday, March 14, subsequent to a raid on her residence prompted by complaints of her fraudulent activities.

Nyambura stands accused of promising prime real estate in Nakuru and Nairobi Counties to her victims, including Nderi and his associate Peter Mwangi.

These promises allegedly included plots in Nakuru’s Milimani Estate, as well as properties in affluent areas of Nairobi such as Karen, Kitusuru, and Kileleshwa, in addition to housing units in Nakuru’s Bondeni Estate.

To bolster her deceitful scheme, Nyambura purportedly furnished her victims with counterfeit land allotment letters and even arranged meetings with government officials, all while impersonating Governor Kihika during phone communications. Remarkably, she never met her victims in person.

During a search of Nyambura’s residence, investigators stumbled upon photographs portraying her alongside notable figures including the President, Governor Kihika, and former Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairo. Further scrutiny uncovered the trail of the illicit funds leading to Nyambura’s bank account.

Upon her appearance in court, Lucy Nyambura pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against her. She was subsequently released on a Ksh8 million bond, secured by a similar surety.

Interestingly, one of the victims, Nderi, had previously engaged in legal proceedings against the state, alleging mistreatment by prison officers during his arrest on charges related to an alleged plot to overthrow former President Daniel Moi’s government.
