Young Kenyans eager to delve into the realm of online earning opportunities are now required to make a payment of Ksh1,500 to the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), as part of President William Ruto’s initiative to expand avenues for sustainable income generation through online work. 

This fee, as outlined by the ICT ministry, will facilitate enrollment in Basic Digital Skills training, aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary competencies for online employment.

The Ministry of ICT, through its Smart Academy website, emphasizes that Basic Digital Skills encompass more than mere technical operations, but rather serve as a gateway to unlocking learning potential, fostering communication, innovation, and empowerment for digital endeavors.

Over the span of ten days, enrolled individuals will undergo comprehensive training covering various aspects of digital proficiency. 

These include Basic Online Work Skills, Basic Video Production and Editing, Accessing Government Services & Youth Opportunities, Communication and Collaboration, Basic Productivity Tools, Digital Devices in a Digital Workspace, Basic E-Waste Management, Cyber Hygiene for Workers, Online Business & Digital Entrepreneurship, and Learning Online.

The government emphasizes the importance of timely registration, offering a deadline of March 31. 

Failure to register by this date will incur a 40% surcharge. Interested individuals are directed to visit www.smartacademy.go.ke to complete the registration process.
