Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, faced yet another setback on Tuesday as he sustained a fresh injury to his right knee during a training session.

This unfortunate development comes as a blow to Courtois, who had been eagerly anticipated to make his return to action in the closing stages of the season.

The Belgian international had been sidelined since August after enduring a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee, and his imminent comeback had provided a glimmer of hope for both the club and its supporters.

In an official statement released by Real Madrid, it was revealed that Courtois underwent diagnostic tests which confirmed a ruptured internal meniscus in his right knee, further prolonging his absence from the pitch.

With this latest injury setback, Courtois is now facing the grim prospect of missing the remainder of the current campaign.

Additionally, any hopes of representing Belgium at the upcoming European Championships in the summer have been dashed for the goalkeeper.

The absence of Courtois has prompted Real Madrid’s coaching staff to place their trust in Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in recent months.

Under the guidance of coach Carlo Ancelotti, Lunin has assumed the role of the team’s primary goalkeeper, edging out competition from Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently on loan from Chelsea.

Lunin’s consistent performances between the posts have solidified his position as the preferred choice for Ancelotti, providing stability to the team’s defensive setup amidst Courtois’ prolonged absence.

Despite the setback, Real Madrid finds themselves in a pivotal phase of the season as they prepare to face Manchester City, the reigning Champions League winners, in the quarter-finals of this season’s competition.

The absence of Courtois poses a significant test for Ancelotti’s side, who will need to rely on the collective strength and resilience of the team to navigate through the challenges that lie ahead in their pursuit of silverware.
