Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has voiced his criticism against Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, accusing her of displaying incompetence in managing her ministerial responsibilities and calling for her removal from office.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Maanzo asserted that CS Nakhumicha’s failure to effectively address the ongoing crisis in the health sector, which has resulted in doctors striking for over three weeks, is evidence of her incapacity to handle the situation.

Expressing concern over the perilous conditions patients face in deserted hospital wards, Senator Maanzo urged Kenyans to show solidarity with the striking doctors, even suggesting the possibility of mass demonstrations demanding Nakhumicha’s resignation and immediate action to rectify the health sector’s challenges.
He emphasized that urgent measures need to be taken to resolve the crisis, proposing the devolution of health services to allow counties to independently and efficiently manage healthcare delivery.
Maanzo’s remarks follow Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino’s announcement of his intention to move an impeachment motion against CS Nakhumicha, citing gross constitutional violations and incompetence as grounds for the motion.
This move has garnered support from 111 MPs. Additionally, the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has called for Nakhumicha’s resignation, holding her accountable for failing to address the human resource crisis in the health sector.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU), representing over 7,000 members, initiated the strike on March 15 to demand salary arrears and the immediate hiring of trainee doctors.
Despite the government’s offer of two billion officers to resolve the standoff, the KMPDU rejected it, citing inadequate fulfillment of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
