President Ruto Appoints Lt. Col. Joan Osweto as New Deputy Aide-De-Camp

President William Ruto’s deputy aide-de-camp has been replaced after serving in the role for less than two years. 

Lieutenant Colonel Joan Osweto will take over the position from Colonel Damaris Agnetta Apondi, who has been reassigned to other duties within the military, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Colonel Osweto was first observed in her new role on Thursday at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, where President Ruto attended the National Drama and Film Festival winners’ state concert.

She will work alongside Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, who serves as President Ruto’s aide-de-camp.

Colonel Apondi initially assumed the role in September 2022 after President Ruto took office, succeeding Lieutenant Colonel Rachel Nduta, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president personally selects the aide-de-camp, who must be a member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). 

Though often seen as a bodyguard or personal assistant, the aide-de-camp’s responsibilities extend beyond that. 

They manage the president’s schedule and coordinate with the main security team.
