UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has responded to ridicule from Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi regarding his earlier warning to respect the party leadership and the presidency.

On Wednesday, Malala cautioned Sudi and other leaders elected under the party, including two Cabinet Secretaries, to refrain from publicly humiliating party officials, particularly Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto.

Sudi later retaliated, describing Malala as an “elevated MCA suffering from illusory superiority,” suggesting he believed himself to be on par with Raphael Tuju.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday, Malala expressed certainty that the statement shared on Sudi’s social media platform X was crafted by his communications team, not the legislator himself.

Malala argued that Sudi, a close ally of Ruto, is a respectable leader who would not make such derogatory remarks.

“When I saw that tweet I laughed it off because I knew it was not him who wrote it. I would urge him to communicate with his communications team to seek his approval before posting anything on his account,” Malala said.

He insisted that Sudi is a respectable leader and his friend, emphasizing that the tweet did not reflect Sudi’s own words.

For the past 24 hours, Malala has faced backlash from those he mentioned in his warning. Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga responded by stating that Malala is insignificant in the UDA party and should be removed.

“Ag SG Malala in UDA is like a square peg in a round hole. He doesn’t fit. I have said it before and I repeat, we must get rid of him in the coming UDA elections,” Kahiga asserted.

This conflict arises amid speculations of a fallout between the president and his deputy, revealing fractures within the party.

This tension has led to public clashes between MP Sudi and DP Gachagua, particularly after Gachagua warned young politicians close to President Ruto from the Rift Valley against disrespecting him and the people of Mt. Kenya.
