Commotion erupted outside Parliament buildings on Tuesday afternoon as comedian Eric Omondi led demonstrations alongside a group of protestors.

The self-proclaimed activist picketed against the Finance Bill, 2024, but the protests were abruptly halted by police intervention to contain the escalating situation.

Despite being arrested by officers, Omondi fervently shouted while attempting to rally the protestors.

Videos circulating online captured the protestors holding large placards, demanding the intervention of Members of Parliament regarding the contentious bill.

The majority of the protestors, many of whom were women dressed in sack clothes, accused legislators of betrayal and expressed concerns over the potential approval of the Finance bill into law.

In a symbolic gesture, demonstrators scattered twigs along the main road outside Parliament as they sought engagement with MPs.

Following his arrest, Omondi was detained in a room within Parliament Buildings where he underwent interrogation.

This isn’t the comedian’s first brush with the law; in February last year, he was arrested for leading protests against the high cost of living, once again outside Parliament Buildings.

During that incident, tear gas canisters were deployed by officers to disperse the protestors.

Senator Narok Senator Ledama Olekina expressed support for Omondi’s activism, stating, “Welcome aboard Eric Omondi, more people will join our movement of change – the cost of living is too high.”
