The President highlighted key government initiatives, such as the Affordable Housing Programme and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), as steps toward national development.
He praised the housing program, noting its success in not only addressing the housing shortage but also in creating employment opportunities.
“We have allocated Ksh.4.4 billion to MSMEs supplying goods and services under this program, demonstrating its transformative impact on local manufacturing,” Ruto said.
Regarding healthcare, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s commitment to universal health coverage.
“Through SHIF and initiatives like Afya Bora Mashinani, which has enlisted over 100,000 community health promoters, we are ensuring that every Kenyan can access preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare,” he explained.
The event also saw a historic moment when Lieutenant Colonel Faith Mwagandi became the first woman to lead the Guard of Honour during the celebration.
Meanwhile, Rigathi Gachagua, the impeached Deputy President, was absent from the ceremony.
He revealed that he was blocked from attending, alleging that orders were issued to prevent him from boarding any flights or helicopters to Kwale.
Despite the challenges, Gachagua shared his frustrations, stating, “All owners of helicopters were told I was not allowed to use any of them to go to Kwale.”
