On Thursday, October 24, 2024, Nairobi’s Eastleigh area came to a standstill as residents filled the streets to protest the brutal murders of three women.
The victims—Amina Abdirashid, her mother Waris Daud, and her niece Nuseiba Dahir—were found dead in different locations after going missing earlier in the week.
In a show of mourning and solidarity, shops and businesses across Eastleigh remained closed as locals expressed their grief and outrage.
The horrific events began on Monday evening when Waris, feeling unwell, informed her daughter Amina and niece Nuseiba that she was heading to the hospital.
Around 9 p.m., Amina, concerned that her mother had not returned, called her, and Waris reassured her she would be back soon.

When she didn’t return, Amina and Nuseiba left to check on her but were never seen again.
The next day, their family was devastated to learn that all three women had been found murdered.
Waris’s body was discovered in Machakos, Amina’s in Parklands, and Nuseiba’s in Buruburu, each in grim circumstances.
CCTV footage later revealed that Amina and Nuseiba had boarded a taxi around 9 p.m. to go to the hospital, marking the last time they were seen alive.

The incident has triggered widespread anger, with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna condemning the rising insecurity and demanding swift action.
He expressed his dismay, stating, “Given the recent wave of abductions and killings, it’s hard to believe anyone feels a sense of safety in our own country right now.”
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation as the Eastleigh community calls for justice and immediate action to ensure their safety.
