Following her passing, her body was taken to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where an autopsy was conducted.
A statement released by the family and shared by Gatwiri’s colleague, Naomi Kuria, confirmed that the popular creator died from asphyxia. According to the pathologist’s report, “The late Gatwiri passed on from positional asphyxia with brain oedema.”
The family also noted that a full toxicology report would be conducted to rule out the possibility of poisoning.
Positional asphyxia, as defined by the National Institutes of Health, is a form of mechanical suffocation that occurs when a person is immobilized in a position that impairs proper ventilation, leading to respiratory failure. Autopsy findings typically reveal brain oedema, or swelling of the brain.

Gatwiri’s death on October 31, 2024, came after a brief illness, prompting an outpouring of tributes.
Her mother, Marcella Sheila Sajuu, expressed her profound grief in an emotional post, questioning the unfairness of her daughter’s fate.
“God, why my daughter and not me?” she wrote, adding, “My child, you were full of life, you supported me, and loved me so much. Death, come for me too.”
Fellow TikToker Prince Mwiti shared that Gatwiri had fallen ill just two days prior to her death.
Her brother, unable to reach her by phone, went to her home to check on her and tragically found her lifeless body after breaking in. “Content creator and actress Gatwiri has passed on.
Reports indicate that she fell ill two days ago. May Gatwiri’s soul rest in peace; one day you are okay, the next minute you are dead. Live life to the fullest,” Mwiti remarked.
