Joy Cheptoyek of Uganda emerged victorious in the 10,000m race at the Athletics Kenya National Championships and African Senior Athletics Championships trials, commencing at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Cheptoyek clocked an impressive time of 32:31.8 to claim the top spot.

Gladys Kwamboka from the National Police secured the second position with a time of 32:43.04, while Faith Chepkoech, a rising star training at South Rift’s Injerian Camp, finished third with a time of 33:04.00.

Cheptoyek, who has already secured berths in the 5000m and 10,000m races for the Paris Olympics Games, revealed that she was invited by Athletics Kenya to participate in the event. 

Despite her expectations, she expressed surprise at her victory, emphasizing the challenging competition she encountered in Kenya.

Kwamboka, aiming for success at the African Senior Athletics Championships scheduled for Douala, Cameroon from June 15-22, expressed her readiness to shine on the continental stage. 

Having previously finished fourth at the Africa Cross Country Championships in Tunisia, Kwamboka is determined to secure a podium finish in Cameroon and earn a spot for the Paris Games.
