In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…
- The National Assembly’s special committee investigating Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi’s impeachment motion will report its findings on May 13.
- If allegations are substantiated, President William Ruto could dismiss Linturi; other urgent matters, including legislative bills, will be addressed during the special sitting.
The National Assembly’s special committee tasked with investigating the impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is set to present its findings to Parliament next Monday.
The eleven-member committee, established last week, is probing allegations outlined in the motion sponsored by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has scheduled a special sitting on May 13 for the committee to deliver its report to the House and determine whether the accusations against Linturi hold merit.

In a notice issued on Monday, Wetangula invoked Article 152(7)(b) of the Constitution and Standing Orders 64(3) and 66, convening the special sitting for the receipt of the committee’s report.
MP Wamboka’s impeachment motion against CS Linturi alleges three grounds: gross violation of the Constitution or any other law, suspicion of criminal activity under national law, and gross misconduct, particularly concerning the procurement and distribution of government-subsidized fertilizer, currently under investigation for potential counterfeit concerns.
The next course of action hinges on the select committee’s findings. If the allegations are deemed unsubstantiated, no further action will be taken.
However, if they are found to have merit, the National Assembly will grant the Cabinet Secretary an opportunity to defend himself before reaching a decision.
Should the majority of the 176 House members support the motion to adopt the committee’s report, President William Ruto will have the authority to dismiss the minister.
Wetangula also announced that during the May 13 special sitting, legislators will address other pressing matters identified by the House Business Committee, including Senate amendments to the Division of Revenue Bill and the ratification of the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting.
