DCI detectives in Koibatek, Baringo County, have launched an investigation into a concerning incident involving suspected counterfeit fertilizer seized in the region. 

The inquiry was prompted by complaints from two residents of Poror village who reported purchasing 34 bags of NPK fertilizer labeled as “KELGREEN” from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Eldama Ravine, only to later discover that the fertilizer was fake.

According to a police report detailing the incident, samples of the purported fertilizer brought to the DCI office in Koibatek exhibited irregularities, with some granules resembling cattle licking salt, black stones, and even containing goat or sheep hair.

Upon examination of the bags, the Sub-County Security Committee took decisive action, instructing the NCPB depot to recall 2,650 bags of the fertilizer that had already been distributed to farmers. 

This swift response underscores the seriousness of the situation and the authorities’ commitment to addressing the issue of counterfeit agricultural inputs in the region.
