DCI Officers Detained 4 Days Over Alleged Theft of Ksh. 2.2M From School Accountant’s Car

Four Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers, suspected of involvement in a theft amounting to Ksh. 2.2 million from a school accountant’s car in Nairobi’s Utawala area, have been remanded for four days to facilitate ongoing investigations. 

The quartet, hailing from DCI Kasarani and Ruai, will remain in custody as authorities work to conclude their inquiries.

The individuals under scrutiny include Sergeant Antony Ndegwa, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, Police Constables Simon Macharia Maina, and Anthony Mwendwa, along with civilians Young Wakhisi and Lukas Magoiga Chacha. Allegedly, they trailed the accountant from a bank in Utawala on June 3rd, subsequently breaking into his vehicle and absconding with the substantial sum.

According to detectives, the six suspects tailed the accountant from the bank until he parked outside Rophine International School. 

The accountant had entered the school premises with a portion of the money earmarked for clearing salary arrears for casual laborers. 

Upon his return to retrieve the remaining amount, he discovered his vehicle had been burgled.

The case is scheduled for mention on Friday as the investigation continues to unfold.
