- Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused certain Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto’s Personal Assistants, and the President’s friends of attempting to undermine him and dictate his actions, emphasizing his loyalty solely to President Ruto and the people of Kenya.
- Gachagua also highlighted past opposition from the same group during his selection as Ruto’s running mate in 2022 and urged them to respect the established hierarchy within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has voiced his frustration, accusing several Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto’s Personal Assistants, and friends of the President of undermining him and attempting to order him around.
During an empowerment program in Kirinyaga County on Saturday, Gachagua expressed his grievances, alleging that these individuals were trying to create a rift between him and his boss.
Gachagua questioned how anyone, be it a personal assistant, a Cabinet Secretary, or a blogger, could summon the audacity to dictate terms to a duly elected deputy president.
“Even some of his friends, his PAs want to order me around on how to do my work. Is it possible? Even bloggers of the president want to tell me what to do… you know me, I have only two bosses, President Ruto and the people of Kenya,” he said.

He emphasized his loyalty and respect for President Ruto, stating, “What the president tells me to do, I have done and will continue to do, respect him, and be loyal to him. But I cannot allow people who hang around him, his friends, to also think they are my bosses. They are not. I am elected by the people of Kenya. I cannot confuse my boss with his friends, I am not that stupid, I know the difference.”
Gachagua also recalled past conflicts with the group he accuses of undermining him, noting that they had opposed his selection as Ruto’s running mate in 2022. Despite their efforts, he played a crucial role in securing votes for President Ruto from the Mount Kenya region.
“When Ruto was looking for a running mate, he had many choices, there was a small group that was saying that if he made me his deputy, he would fail. They attempted to convince him, but finally, he made up his mind as a very seasoned politician and came to the conclusion that it was me to be his deputy,” Gachagua explained.
He cautioned those close to the President against overstepping their boundaries, reminding them of their place within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
“The problem you are currently witnessing is that some people who are friends of the president also want to be my boss. Is it possible?” Gachagua questioned, urging them to respect the established hierarchy.
