On Saturday afternoon, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was met with hostility during his visit to Toi Market, where a dawn fire had tragically claimed four lives and inflicted significant losses on traders.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. A video circulating online shows Sakaja surrounded by bodyguards as stones flew through the air, targeting him.

The situation escalated, forcing Sakaja’s security team to fire shots into the air to disperse the angry crowd.

Many traders expressed their frustration, criticizing the governor for previous unfulfilled promises to repair the market after a similar incident last year.
