Antoine Griezmann’s remarkable streak of 84 consecutive appearances for the French national team comes to an end as he is sidelined due to an ankle sprain, ruling him out of France’s upcoming friendlies against Germany and Chile.

Griezmann’s absence marks the first time he won’t feature for Les Bleus since November 2016, just ahead of the Euro 2024 tournament.

Matteo Guendouzi earns a call-up, replacing the seasoned Griezmann in the squad for the first time since the last World Cup.

Despite Coach Didier Deschamps acknowledging Griezmann’s significance to the team, the decision to heed the advice of the team doctor was made, with the 32-year-old forward experiencing ongoing ankle issues despite returning to action for Atletico Madrid.

Concerns over injuries linger as AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan faces doubts, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele is recovering from a punctured eardrum.

Deschamps remains hopeful for the fitness of Adrien Rabiot, Lucas Hernandez, and Ibrahima Konate, although the latter’s recent absence from Liverpool’s matches raises questions.

In a bid to finalize his squad for the European championships in mid-May, Deschamps emphasizes the importance of involving as many players as possible for the upcoming friendlies, aiming to anticipate any potential setbacks due to injuries.
