Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has expressed serious concern over the recent increase in murder cases across the country.
In a statement released this week, he reported that from August to October 2024, a total of 339 murder cases were documented, showing a small increase compared to the 336 cases in 2023 and 341 in 2022.
Kanja reassured the public that the National Police Service (NPS) is actively investigating these cases and urged citizens to cooperate in addressing this unsettling trend.
Among the recent cases is the tragic death of Willis Onyango Aiyeko, a 52-year-old Wells Fargo employee.
His partially decomposed body was found on October 21, 2024, in Mungowere Stream in Khwisero Sub-County, after he was reported missing at Siaya Police Station earlier that day.

Authorities transported Aiyeko’s body to Nairobi for an autopsy under police escort from the Siaya Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
In another case, a body suspected to belong to Hon. Yusuf Hussein, a Member of County Assembly from Wajir, was discovered floating in Lake Yahud in Wajir East Sub-County.
Hussein had been missing since September 13, 2024. A post-mortem examination, conducted by Dr. Johansen Oduor, revealed blunt trauma as the cause of death. However, DNA results showed no match to Hussein, prompting further investigation by the police.
The Inspector General also updated the public on the murder of Noah, whose body was found with a deep neck wound on August 28, 2024.
Noah’s vehicle, initially reported missing in Kehancha, was recovered in Nakuru with fake license plates.
The primary suspect is linked to a series of violent robberies targeting taxi drivers, who were lured and subsequently attacked.
Another disturbing case occurred in Kajiado County, where 62-year-old advocate James Nyataa Onchiri was killed after an evening spent with his office messenger, Erick Ondiek.
CCTV footage captured Ondiek dragging Onchiri to his vehicle before inflicting fatal injuries.
Additionally, in Nairobi’s Eastleigh Estate, three family members were recently discovered dead from stab wounds.
Investigations into these cases are ongoing, with the DCI Homicide Team determined to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The police are appealing to the public to assist in these investigations by promptly reporting any criminal activities or suspicious incidents to the nearest police station or the DCI Homicide Unit.
“We assure the public of our commitment to bringing these heinous crimes to their logical conclusions,” affirmed Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho.
