Requirements for Appointment:
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade D plain or its equivalent qualification fro a recognized Institution;
  • A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class(es) of vehicle(s) an officer is required to drive;
  • Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
  • Passed Suitability Test for Driver Grade Ill;
  • Passed Practical Test for Drivers conducted by the respective Ministry /Department;
  • A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from Directorate of Criminal Investigations
    Must have at least 3 years in driving emergency services vehicles (e.g. ambulances and fire engines).
  • Good understanding of the local laws applicable to driving emergency vehicles.
  • Able to work in a 24-hour environment and maintain a positive enthusiastic attitude.
  • Shown merit and good performance in driving fire engines and emergency vehicles

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing efficient ground ambulance driving.
  • Ensuring that staff and deliveries are taken to their destinations in a timely, safe and secure manner.
  • Keeping the vehicle in good working condition.
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is always kept clean.
  • Ensuring the safety of passengers and vehicle at all times.
