The overall purpose of this role is to provide clinical diagnostics through review of tests, develop reports and communicate to patients’ doctors’ on findings in line with established protocols and the hospital’s patient care objectives.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing & reporting BMA &BMB, Exchange blood transfusion.
  • Deliver expertise on reporting Haemoglobin electrophoresis, Protein electrophoresis, Coagulation studies, Immunohematology & Immunology IF, Elisa & molecular biology ,etc.
  • Interpretation of culture and sensitivity results and annual antibiogram data.
  • Verification of critical, unusual, and abnormal test results before release.
  • Review and validate all laboratory results.
  • Develop and implement laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Updating of the SOPs & report formats.
  • Providing expertise on the hospital wide committee on AMR, Infection control, etc.
  • Supervising quality checks both internal and external and sign off to ensure the department is performing to the required quality standards & complying to quality assurance requirements to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Come up with innovative test methods for new conditions that deliver quality patient care and output.
  • Develop & monitor Test verification / Validation protocols.
  • Develop testing strategy and laboratory protocols during epidemics and pandemics;
  • Attending the Hospital wide CME, Mortality meetings, ICU Grand rounds & Medical tumor boards meetings.
  • Presenting CME for relevant topics & organizing training for the departmental staff.
  • Participate in medical research projects.
  • Inform the doctor on any information relevant to patient regarding any urgent or unusual findings to inform on appropriate treatment actions.
  • Undertake consultation with the patient doctor from time to time to offer advice on any urgent necessary action to be undertaken.
  • Respond to queries from doctors and advise on the best test to carry out regarding different test selections and aid with result interpretation.
  • Supervise implementation of material management protocols .
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master of Medicine degree in Clinical Pathology from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council and hold a valid practicing licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years practicing experience in Clinical Pathology.
