Kenya’s Chepkoech and Cheruiyot Lead Medal Hunt at Paris Olympics

They will compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase and men’s 1500m finals at Stade de France in Paris.

Chepkoech will team up with Faith Cherotich to aim for Kenya’s first gold medal in the women’s race since the event was introduced at the Beijing Games in 2008. 

The pair will face tough competition from defending champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda, reigning world champion Winfred Yavi, and Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan.

In the men’s 1500m final at 9:50 pm, Timothy Cheruiyot will be joined by Africa Games champion Brian Komen as they seek to reclaim the title last won by Kenya in 2008.

Their main competitors include the formidable defending champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway and world champion Josh Kerr of Great Britain.

On Monday night, Kenya celebrated its first three medals at the Games: Beatrice Chebet won gold in the women’s 5000m, Faith Kipyegon secured silver, and Mary Moraa took bronze in the women’s 800m.
