In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…
- KMPDU has warned 11 counties of a possible strike due to delayed July and August salaries.
- A 14-day strike notice has also been issued to Nandi and Mombasa counties over unpaid March and April salaries.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a stern warning to 11 counties, threatening to strike due to unexplained delays in the payment of July and August salaries.
The counties under notice include Lamu, Kakamega, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Meru, Isiolo, Marsabit, Kirinyaga, Samburu, Nakuru, and Mandera.
In addition, KMPDU has served a 14-day strike notice to doctors in Nandi and Mombasa counties, citing the failure to pay March and April salaries.
These salaries were withheld during a previous strike, despite a court order mandating their release.

KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah expressed frustration over the failure of the return-to-work agreement signed with both county and national governments.
He pointed out that the doctors were supposed to begin receiving their basic salary arrears for the past seven years starting in July, but the national government has yet to take any action.
The money should have been paid in July and August, but nothing has happened.
‘’The counties have informed us that they are still waiting for funds from the national government,” Dr. Atellah stated during a press briefing on Saturday.
“We have been patient, but our patience should not be mistaken for complacency. We are prepared to sue the government for contempt and ready to go back on strike to demand these payments.”
