Leicester City secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday, thanks to Abdul Fatawu’s hat-trick, which brings them closer to promotion back to the Premier League. 

The Foxes are now just one win away from securing a spot in the Championship’s top two, with only two games remaining in the season.

Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy also found the net for Leicester, compounding Southampton’s defeat and ending their hopes of automatic promotion.

Southampton must now regroup in time for the playoffs, while Leicester aims to solidify their position with upcoming matches against Preston and Blackburn.

Fatawu opened the scoring for Leicester at the 25th minute with a smooth finish after racing onto a pass from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. 

Ndidi extended the lead with a header just after the hour mark, and Fatawu then secured the win with an impressive shot across and beyond Southampton’s goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Vardy, at 37 years old, demonstrated his enduring skill by scoring with a first-time finish assisted by Fatawu.
