Faith Odhiambo, President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), has called on President William Ruto’s administration to compensate Kenyans injured during ongoing nationwide anti-government demonstrations.

Speaking to journalists outside Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Friday, Odhiambo referenced President Ruto’s recent remarks indicating that the government would “account for” those injured, suggesting this implied compensation.

“The Head of State confirmed that the injured will be accounted for. We hope that will account for compensation so that we won’t need to go to court to ensure that these victims are compensated,” she stated, expressing the LSK’s stance on the matter.

Odhiambo assured the victims receiving treatment at KNH that LSK would provide them with legal support upon discharge.

She encouraged Kenyans to donate blood at KNH to support those injured during the protests, noting the substantial turnout for blood donations and urging more to participate.

“We are pleased with the turnout of Kenyans donating blood, and we encourage others to join to ensure adequate supply for the ongoing treatment,” she remarked.

Acknowledging the efforts of KNH medical staff in treating a large number of injured individuals, Odhiambo highlighted the ongoing surgical procedures and the need for continued medical care and rehabilitation for discharged patients.

“We have met with the patients, assured them of our support, and understand that some may require further treatment and referrals as they continue their recovery,” she concluded, emphasizing LSK’s commitment to assisting the injured protesters.
