Malala Accuses UDA Officials of Plotting to Impeach Deputy President Gachagua

In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Cleopas Malala, recently ousted as UDA Secretary General, accuses senior party officials of plotting to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
  • Malala claims his removal was part of a broader scheme by Kimani Ichung’wa and Cecily Mbarire to position themselves politically in the Mt. Kenya region.

Recently ousted United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General, Cleopas Malala, has accused senior party officials of orchestrating a plan to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking to the press just two weeks after his dramatic removal from office, Malala pointed fingers at Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, whom he blames for his downfall.

Malala described his ouster as “illegal,” alleging that Ichung’wa and Mbarire, along with other accomplices, plotted to remove him as the first step in their broader plan to impeach Gachagua.

He claimed that his close working relationship with the deputy president, who is also the UDA deputy party leader, made him a target, as it posed an obstacle to their scheme.

The former Kakamega Senator asserted that the real motive behind the plot was to position Ichung’wa and Mbarire strategically for future political gains in the Mt. Kenya region, particularly in the 2027 and 2032 elections.

He dismissed any involvement of President William Ruto or opposition members in the alleged plot, stating that the impeachment plan was driven purely by self-interest within the party.

Malala also criticized his successor, Hassan Omar, calling his appointment unlawful and accusing him of being part of the conspiracy.

He insisted that his removal from office was a violation of the party’s constitution, as he was not given a fair hearing or the opportunity to defend himself.

In addition, Malala revealed that he has documentary evidence of 18 accusations against Ichung’wa and Mbarire, including allegations of forging signatures to defraud the party and manufacturing minutes of non-existent meetings.

He promised to disclose further details in due course, including attempts by the duo and their accomplices to undermine the UDA party by stalling key activities meant to popularize and expand its influence.
