A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly demanding a Ksh.100,000 bribe while posing as a Nairobi County Government official.

The suspect, William Okoth, is accused of pretending to be the personal assistant to the county secretary, promising the complainant that he could help secure a job for the complainant’s wife as a cleaner in the county government, according to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Okoth allegedly convinced the complainant that, in his position as the “PA to the CS,” he wielded significant influence over county affairs and could expedite the issuance of an employment letter.

However, this favor came with a demand for a Ksh.100,000 bribe, which Okoth referred to as “tea.”

The complainant, suspicious of the offer, reported the matter to the EACC. Following a sting operation, Okoth was apprehended at a restaurant in Nairobi after allegedly receiving the bribe.

He was detained at Kilimani Police Station and was expected to record a statement on Wednesday regarding the incident.
