Kylian Mbappe expressed pride in leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with his “head held high” after their French Cup victory on Saturday.
Following PSG’s 2-1 triumph over Lyon in Lille, Mbappe spoke to reporters, relishing the feeling of finishing his tenure at the club with a trophy.

While speculation points to Real Madrid as his likely destination, no official announcement has been made by either party. “All I wanted was to end things well with my club, with a trophy.
I think there is a time for everything, and I will announce my future club in good time,” he stated, hinting that an announcement would come in a few days. He noted, “I don’t know when yet.
There are still some details to be sorted out, but the most important thing was to finish on a high here.”
In Saturday’s final, although Mbappe did not score, he concluded his PSG career with an impressive record of 256 goals in 308 appearances.
Goals from Ousmane Dembele and Fabian Ruiz secured the victory for PSG, with Lyon’s Jake O’Brien scoring a consolation goal in the second half.
This win secured a domestic league and cup double for PSG under Luis Enrique, despite their earlier exit in the Champions League semi-finals to Borussia Dortmund.
Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco in August 2017 for a staggering 180 million euros. During his seven-year spell at PSG, he won six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, two League Cups, and played a pivotal role in reaching the 2020 Champions League final.
Reflecting on his time at the club, he said, “There are only good memories, and now I can go out with my head held high, with a trophy as well, so I will only remember the positives.”
He admitted that the significance of his final match for PSG weighed on him, particularly during the pre-match protocol, which allowed ample time for reflection.
“With the protocol before a Cup final, you have a lot of waiting around, and so there is a lot of time to think. The last thing a footballer needs to be doing is thinking,” Mbappe explained.

“All the memories start to come back. There is all the nostalgia, and the thought that in 90 minutes, it will all be over. It was difficult but great fun at the same time,” he concluded.
As Mbappe prepares to join the French national squad for Euro 2024, he leaves behind a legacy at PSG marked by numerous titles and unforgettable moments.
