A business owner in Mombasa has been arrested for allegedly shooting at protesters in the Ganjoni area during ongoing anti-government demonstrations. 

According to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday afternoon, the owner of Qaffee Point Hotel shot and injured two people at around 1:30 PM. 

The DCI reported that the civilian firearm holder was disarmed and is currently in lawful custody.

“The reported two persons who suffered injuries are receiving medical aid, and we pray that they will recuperate fast,” the statement read.

The DCI also expressed gratitude to the members of the public who acted swiftly to assist the injured and appealed to the people of Mombasa to remain calm as necessary legal actions are being taken.
