In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…
- Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi faced backlash for flaunting a Ksh16.6 million watch on the Obinna Show, with critics questioning the media’s role in allowing such displays of wealth.
- Foreign Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei and netizens criticized the interview for lacking substance and failing to hold Sudi accountable.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and media personality Oga Obinna have recently faced criticism, led by Foreign Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, following an interview on the Obinna Show.
During the show, MP Sudi boasted about owning a high-end watch valued at Ksh16.6 million ($128,000).
He commented, “This watch was not manufactured for trees or cows but it was made for human beings. Who do you want to wear these watches? If you tell me not to wear the suit and tie, who do you want to wear it when the products are in the shop? This is stupidity of the highest order.”

Reacting to the interview, Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei criticized it, questioning its intent and benefit to Kenyans. “(This is an) unfortunate interview. To what end?” he asked.
Many netizens echoed Sing’oei’s sentiments, arguing that the media should impact viewers positively.
They criticized Obinna for allowing guests to flaunt their wealth without probing into how it was acquired.
“He even had to carry the watch. It’s pathetic. If it was about business, it would have served the nation better if he came to talk about the business acumen that enables him to be rich,” noted Vitalis Ogola.
Some viewers felt that Sudi dominated the show and avoided answering questions comprehensively. Comments from social media included:
@victorkinyanjui7153: “How did we get ourselves here, man…I feel embarrassed.”
@Jeronokosgey: “Sudi is the one interviewing Obinna instead.”
@alicechege7974: “I am a supporter of your show, but this time you (Obinna) are one of the people failing this country. We are fighting hard to make sure that these people don’t have platforms while you are busy giving them one.”
@kentarus: “Sudi just took over the interviewing duty.”
The interview has sparked a broader debate about the role of media in holding public figures accountable and the importance of asking tough questions.
