Popular Nollywood comedy actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, has passed away while receiving treatment at a Lagos hospital. His death was announced by the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, citing a cardiac arrest.

Mr. Ibu, the beloved Nollywood comedy icon, whose real name is John Okafor, has passed away.
The news broke on Saturday, revealing that he died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lagos.
Emeka Rollas Ejezie, the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, shared the heartbreaking news on his Instagram account, stating that Mr. Ibu suffered a fatal cardiac arrest.
According to Mr. Ibu’s manager of 25 years, Don Single Nwuzor, the actor succumbed to the cardiac arrest. Ejezie expressed profound sorrow over the loss and prayed for Mr. Ibu’s soul to rest in peace.

The actor’s health struggles came into the public eye in November 2023 when his family disclosed that his leg had been amputated due to medical reasons.
In a statement shared on social media, the family revealed that Mr. Ibu had undergone multiple surgeries before the amputation in a bid to save his life.
Despite the challenges, they accepted the new reality and urged Nigerians and fans to extend their support during this difficult time, emphasizing the delicacy of their father’s condition.
Mr. Ibu’s legacy in Nollywood is immense, with his comedic performances leaving an indelible mark on audiences.
He appeared in numerous blockbuster films such as “Aki and Pawpaw,” “Keziah,” “9 Wives,” and the iconic “Mr. Ibu in London.”
