The veteran reggae host lamented that late diagnosis and lack of adequate treatment in Kenya exacerbated her condition.
“The damage caused due to late diagnosis and lack of treatment in our country took me 17 years to get a diagnosis. After fundraising for specialized treatment,” she revealed.
The disease had spread to her teeth, heart, appendix, and spine, causing her organs to shift to the left. Koikai noted that the adverse effects of endometriosis and adenomyosis lead to infertility.
She further explained that she had undergone countless surgeries because her lungs collapsed monthly during her periods.
“In my case, that lining grew in my lungs, causing my lungs to collapse every month and countless surgeries were conducted,” she disclosed.
At one point, Koikai called on President William Ruto and other leaders to assist with her medical bills and therapy charges.
“This is a sincere and heartfelt call for help to a few Kenyan leaders, but allow me to address this to President William Ruto first as he makes his state visit to the US. Mr. President, one of the thematic areas of your visit is investment in health,” she communicated in a post.
The reggae MC also requested former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho to help her settle a Ksh 2.4 million hospital bill.
Koikai’s struggle and appeals highlighted the severe impact of endometriosis and the urgent need for better healthcare resources and support in Kenya.
