Ruto Retains 6 Former CSs As he Nominates 11 Cabinet Secretaries

President William Ruto has embarked on reshaping his cabinet, nominating ten Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General in the initial phase of this process. 

In a recent address, Ruto unveiled the names of the nominees, six of whom are reappointments from his previous cabinet. 

These returning members include Kithure Kindiki, Aden Duale, Rebecca Miano, Siopan Tuiya, Alice Wahome, and Davis Chirchir.

Ruto emphasized his commitment to assembling a new, inclusive cabinet aimed at spearheading essential and transformative changes in the country. 

“I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country,” he stated.

He then introduced the first batch of 11 nominees for consideration and approval by the National Assembly.

The nominees are as follows:

  • Interior and National Administration: Prof. Kithure Kindiki
  • Defence: Aden Duale
  • Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation: Eric Murithi Muga
  • Roads and Transport: Davis Chirchir
  • Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry: Roselinda Soipan Tuiya
  • Lands, Housing, and Urban Development: Alice Wahome
  • Agriculture and Livestock Development: Dr. Andrew Muihia Karanja
  • Education: Julius Migos Ogamba
  • Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy: Dr. Margret Nyambura Ndung’u
  • Health: Dr. Debra Mlongo Barasa
  • Attorney General: Rebecca Miano

The President indicated that further instructions would be provided to outline the new cabinet’s approach to service delivery. 

He also mentioned ongoing consultations across the political spectrum to finalize the remaining cabinet positions.

Ruto assured that these consultations are nearing completion and promised a detailed roadmap for the new cabinet, which will include clear timelines and deliverables. 

The constitution permits a cabinet of between 14 and 22 members, and the remaining positions yet to be filled include:

  • National Treasury and Planning
  • Public Service, Gender, and Affirmative Action
  • Trade, Investment, and Industry
  • East African Community (EAC), Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development
  • Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage
  • Education, Energy, and Petroleum
  • Youth Affairs, Sports, and the Arts
  • Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development
  • Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs
  • Labour and Social Protection

The President’s next steps will provide clarity on the final composition and focus of the reconstituted cabinet.
