Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has raised concerns over the growing number of Mt Kenya MPs declaring their allegiance to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, suggesting it’s part of a larger scheme to sideline Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Thang’wa claimed that the MPs aim to impeach Gachagua, bring charges against him, and divide political positions among themselves.

The senator strongly defended Gachagua, emphasizing that he would remain the political voice of the Mt Kenya region.

“It is their plan to unite, bring an impeachment motion, remove him from office, jail him, and give positions to other people,” Thang’wa stated.

He reassured his audience that the region had voted for Gachagua and would not allow any attempts to oust him.

Thang’wa also warned CS Kindiki to be cautious of the support he is receiving from the MPs, recalling a similar situation with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

According to Thang’wa, Nyoro was once elevated by the same group, only to be abandoned later.

“They raised him on a pedestal, took him around the country, and then left him falling. He’s still picking himself up,” Thang’wa remarked, warning that the same fate could befall Kindiki.

The senator further criticized the MPs’ actions, calling it an abdication of their duty and a sign of lack of responsibility.

He expressed concern over their move to centralize communication with the president through a single person, describing it as a vote of no confidence in their leadership.

This development comes as Gachagua’s influence in the Mt Kenya region faces increasing uncertainty.

Over 69 MPs have declared their support for CS Kindiki as their preferred link to the executive, citing stalled development projects in the region.

The first wave saw 21 MPs from Mt Kenya East endorse Kindiki, followed by another 48 MPs under the ‘Nyandarua declaration,’ signaling their desire for a leader to lobby for resources for the region.
