Two Killed, Several Injured As Planned Land Eviction In Embu Goes Wrong

In a tragic turn of events, two individuals, John Kamau and Julius Bararu, met their demise at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital following a violent land eviction operation gone awry in Gitaraka, Embu County. 

The incident unfolded when a group of 15 suspected goons, allegedly hired by landowner Jane Wahito Ndirangu, attempted to forcefully remove squatters from her property. 

Spearheaded by Pius Nyoike, the group descended upon the area and began demolishing makeshift structures.

However, their efforts were met with fierce resistance from the squatters, who retaliated with a barrage of weapons, including clubs and machetes. 

Amidst the chaos, Kamau, Bararu, and Antony Mwangi suffered severe head injuries.

Local law enforcement swiftly intervened to restore order, rescuing the injured parties and placing them in custody at Karaba Police Station on charges of inciting violence likely to cause a breach of peace. 

Despite their release on cash bail due to the extent of their injuries, Kamau and Bararu were transferred to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for specialized medical treatment. 

Tragically, their conditions deteriorated, leading to their untimely passing at the hospital on Thursday night.

The news of their demise was received with sorrow by John Muraguri, a cousin to one of the deceased.
