In Kericho County, police have apprehended two suspects suspected of involvement in the brutal rape and murder of a middle-aged woman in Kipsamoi village, Sigowet/Soin sub-county. 

Junior police officers from Sondu police station, speaking on anonymity, disclosed that the suspects were captured in their hideout following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

The victim was reportedly ambushed by the assailants as she made her way home from a drinking spree during the night.

They forcibly took her to a nearby field, allegedly owned by one of the residents, where they subjected her to repeated acts of sexual assault. 

Subsequently, the suspects, purportedly identified by the victim despite her intoxicated state, dragged her to a nearby nappier grass farm near her residence, where they ruthlessly ended her life.

After the heinous crime, the perpetrators fled the scene, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. 

The two suspects were apprehended early Friday and taken into custody at Sondu police station. 

Authorities disclosed that they are pursuing significant leads that may lead to the arrest of additional suspects linked to the incident.

Family members of the deceased discovered her lifeless body and promptly alerted the authorities, sparking an outcry from the local community.

Police swiftly responded to the scene and transferred the victim’s remains to the mortuary at Sigowet Sub-county Hospital for further examination.

The detained suspects are slated to face charges in court next week as investigations into the gruesome crime continue.
