- Residents praised his determination to further his education and contribute effectively to county assembly debates.
In a heartwarming celebration, Kipkenyo Ward in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, came alive on Saturday as residents gathered to honor their Member of County Assembly (MCA), David Kimeli Letting, fondly known as Kokwas.
The 64-year-old MCA, who recently sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams as a private candidate, achieved a mean grade of D-.
Far from feeling discouraged, Kokwas proudly highlighted his journey, emphasizing that he surpassed over 400 candidates despite minimal preparation. “I sat for the exams in just 30 days without attending school or tuition.
I am trying to do my exams through God,” he shared. His best subject was Biology, where he scored a C-, accompanied by four Es, two D-, and a surprising pass in Kiswahili, which he initially feared would result in an E+.
Kokwas, who dropped out of nursery school in 1970, embarked on his academic journey four years ago, sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and scoring 150 marks. This inspired him to push further, aiming to join the ranks of O-Level graduates.

Despite being elected without academic qualifications, Kokwas expressed a deep desire to enhance his education to contribute effectively in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly. “Now, nobody can say I’m unqualified. I can speak and articulate issues in English, and this is from God,” he said.
Area residents joined the celebration, praising their MCA for his determination and resilience. For Kokwas, his KCSE results symbolize a significant milestone and a testament to his belief in lifelong learning.
